Biography

About The HonorableDel M. Mauhrine Brown

Judge Brown is a life-long resident of Hopewell, Virginia where she attended all of the Hopewell Public Schools. After graduating from Hopewell High School, she attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where she interned at the Maryland General Assembly with the Maryland Women's Caucus and the National Organization for Women. She later attended the University of Maryland School of Law. During her third year, she taught a Politics and Law class.

After graduation, she worked at the University of Maryland Center for Political Leadership and the African American Studies Department, coordinating major research initiatives including the New Jersey Transit Authority Study focused on minority business participation. Under the mentorship of Dr. Samuel L. Myers Jr., she transitioned to the University of Minnesota Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice as Associate Director.

Returning to Virginia, Judge Brown served as an Assistant Professor of Business Law at Norfolk State University and later as a university recruiter, traveling nationally to recruit high-achieving students into the DNIMAS program. Judge Brown later entered private practice under the mentorship of Gerald Poindexter, Esq. and the Honorable Gammiel G. Poindexter, then served in both the Portsmouth and Suffolk Public Defender's Offices before continuing in general legal practice.

She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a former Board Member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Richmond. Her law office has supported criminal justice and pre-law students through internships.

Judge Brown is married to her husband Brett and is the proud mother of her son Bliss, an academic scholar and student-athlete at Frostburg State University. She is also an animal lover who has cared for a variety of pets including dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits.
